James L. Mauney, CHS V, FPEM is a Senior Consultant with KETCHConsulting. Mr. Mauney’s area of specialty is training. While with Volusia County, he served as Training Team and Planning & Research supervisor, researching and developing curriculum of fire and emergency programs. He’s designed, developed and presented courses in incident management, hydraulics, firefighter principles and practices, minimum standards, first responder, company officer leadership, hazardous materials, and wildfire suppression. He is also an Incident Management Instructor for Federal and State incident management teams regarding all hazards, and has instructed all phases of National Interagency Incident Management System for Incident Command. As a Fire Services Instructor, he designed an award-winning smoke maze in order to provide opportunities for Fire Service personnel to experience real life fire/heat conditions in a controlled environment.
Besides his consulting experience, Mr. Mauney’s experiences have included Deputy Fire Chief/Director of the Emergency Services Institute for Volusia County Fire Services. He has over 35 years of experience in organizational leadership, operations and training, and emergency planning, preparedness and response.
Mr. Mauney’s certifications include: Certified Homeland Security Level V, Florida Professional Emergency Manager, Florida Fire Officer One; Fire Instructor; Emergency Medical Technician; Monadknock PR-24 Instructor; SCUBA Diver; Department of Justice, General Instructor Weapons of Mass Destruction, and Law Enforcement officer. He has been or is affiliated with the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute, International Association of Fire Chiefs; Florida Fire Chiefs Association, Wildfire sub-committee; Deputy Incident Manager on Florida’s Red Overhead Team; Federal Incident Management Team, Pooled Resource; American Association of Public Administration; Part time instructor with Texas A & M, presenting programs in WMD and response to Public Works, Fire and Law Enforcement agencies, State of Florida’s Communication Advisory Board; Volusia County Fire Chiefs Association; Past Chairman of Central Florida Prescribed Fire Council, Representative for Emergency Management on the Central Florida Regional Domestic Security Task Force and State Working Group Training and Operations Committee, and Executive Director of the Critical Response Team of Volusia for Emergency Services and Team Leader for the Florida Department of Health Regional Disaster Behavioral Health Assessment Team.
