Trump Tower, Chicago is one of the locations affected in the breach.

Trump Hotels report data breach

A presidential campaign is not the time for bad news to break, yet unfortunately for Donald Trump, this is exactly what happened.

Back in July, news broke that the Trump Hotels were investigating a possible data breach that occurred on their properties. Now, the hotel conglomerate has confirmed the hacks.

In a legal notice to customers recently posted on their website, the Trump Hotel collection said that their investigation exposed an almost year long breach, occurring between May 19, 2014 through June 2, 2015. Several of the groups locations were affected, including the Trump SoHo New York, Trump National Doral in Miami, Trump International New York, Trump International Chicago, Trump International Waikiki, Trump International Hotel & Tower Las Vegas and Trump International Toronto.

In addition to credit card numbers, the notice states that the breach may have also leaked the corresponding names of customers, but only at the Waikiki and Las Vegas locations.

According to the notice, no instances of fraudulent activity have yet to be reported.

"Although an independent forensic investigation has not conclusively determined that any particular customer's payment card information was taken from the Properties' payment card system or misused, we are providing this notice out of an abundance of caution to inform potentially affected customers of the incident and to call their attention to some steps they may choose to take to help protect themselves," the notice said.

The malware that had affected the Trump systems has since been removed and the company is currently in the process of deploying additional security measures to further protect their systems.

Situations like this are where disaster recovery plans are helpful. In addition to the negative press that Trump is likely to receive in the wake of this news, the hotels themselves will almost certainly experience the negative financial impact of this breach.
