Pre Conference Course 6

Planning and Implementing and Effective BIA

Sat., Sept. 8, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Sun., Sept. 9, 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m

$1295 per person

Presenters: Morris Davis, Ted Brown

The business impact analysis (BIA) is the foundation on which the business continuity program is built. It identifies, quantifies and qualifies the business impacts of loss, interruption or disruption of business activities on an organization and provides the data from which appropriate continuity strategies can be determined.

You’ll learn how to tailor a business impact analysis (BIA) to your organization, to provide management the data to support the appropriate BCP/COOP strategy and program. This dynamic class will review the “critical success factors” that lead to a quality BIA. It will also discuss the pitfalls that probably guarantee failure. Areas discussed include: What should the project plan be? How long should it take? What kind of survey should be used? How long? What should be the goals? What about interviews versus workshops? What is the Output? Sponsors: are they required? Who should it be? Who shouldn’t it be? How do you get management buy-in to conduct a BIA?

Morris Davis, MBCI, CBCP, the KETCHConsulting national practice leader will teach the BIA class and facilitate the exercises.

Ted Brown, MBCI, CBCP, CBCV, president and CEO of KETCHConsulting, is a recognized business continuity industry leader whose tireless efforts have dramatically increased visibility of BCP/COOP nationwide and globally.

Preconference workshop 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Presented by Ted Brown, KETCHConsulting

Sell it, Don’t Tell It – Selling Continuity to Management, Executives, and Elected Officials (additional registration fee applies)
Course Cost: $395.00*

*Additional registration fee (go to www.driconference.org)

Description

Gaining management buy-in can be a challenge for the planning professional. The problem is most often in the presentation. Planners don’t communicate the concept of continuity in a way to which executives and elected officials can relate; they don’t sell it, they tell it. In this workshop, learn how to:

-Handle objections
-Reference sell
-Understand the implications of Sarbanes-Oxley
-Tout business continuity as another form of insurance
-Gather allies within your corporation or government entity
-Develop a BCP/COOP ROI with actual numbers
-Use the Internet to increase BCP/COOP awareness in order to obtain executive support

Leave this workshop with a BCP/COOP ROI formula that you can actually put to work!

You also will receive PowerPoint charts that you can use when addressing executives and elected officials responsible for HR, security, manufacturing, sales, marketing, finance, and IT.

Additionally, you will learn why BCP/COOP is about people and the issues (and opportunities!) that dynamic creates, the difference between COOP (Continuity Of Operations Plan) and emergency management, and how to present why IT is an important subset of BCP, not the other way around.

A Workshop On Emerging Trends And Approaches: Integrating And Collaborating Resources In Preventing Violence In The Workplace

Presented by KETCHConsulting

Workplace Violence in general is a complex and dangerous occupational hazard affecting every type of workplace requiring ongoing multiple intervention strategies in cooperation and coordination with the organizational leadership. Taking proactive protective measures that recognize that the workplace could be at risk from a disgruntled employee or domestic violence spillover into the workplace are realities workplaces must be prepared to address. This workshop presentation address the “Five Stages of An Active Shooter, and will attempt to address the value of proactive Workplace Violence Prevention Programs that incorporate an integrated and collaborative approach using multiple intervention strategies that should move the proactive prevention approach to reality. An approach if driven and reinforced through senior leadership commitment can underscore the importance of tying management commitment to worker safety, supporting a critical analysis of workplace environments to identify and manage at risk situations, examine current capabilities, review limitations and illustrate the value of collaboration in minimizing the impact of policy decisions on workplace security. In the end, consider the legal implications of hollow workplace violence prevention policies and violence prevention plans.

Consultants, and Ted Brown, CBCP CBCV MBCI, President & CEO of KETCHConsulting

A Tabletop Exercise On Crisis Management Planning, Workplace Violence Prevention And Response Planning As A Business Continuity Consideration
Presented by KETCHConsulting

Workplace Violence, though preventable, requires vigilance and a devoted management commitment to worker safety and security in reducing the conditions and situations that ultimately expose the workplace to the violent act of homicide by a disgruntled employee or domestic violence spillover incident in the workplace. This workshop and discussion will attempt to show that having the ability to examine current capabilities and limitations in the pre-incident phase allows a proactive organization the opportunity to assess capabilities and limitations and plan for the eventuality even if such an event never occurs. The logic applied is similar in the evacuation drills and exercise in order to identify organizational and individual responsibilities during a Hostile Intrude/Active Shooter Incident. Using a modified desktop simulation exercise, we will present a domestic violence scenario gone awry in a workplace setting that attempts to engage as many entities within the organization in exercising the value of coordination, cooperation and collaboration. In the end, the objective is inspire attendees to review their own capabilities by adopting new approaches, and changing current practices or updating existing policy and procedures.
